The position demands expertise in gold and silver metalworking, soldering, a strong understanding of geometry and dimensions, attention to detail, excellent time management skills, a high degree of manual dexterity, patience, and openness to feedback. This position focuses on our drawn tone hole models.

      Required profile

      The ideal candidate would have 2 – 3 years of experience with metalworking and bench work, though we are open to training motivated candidates without such experience. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Ability to play the flute or another musical instrument is a plus.

        The Headjoint Assembly position is responsible for the preparation and assembly of parts for headjoints. Responsibilities include extruding the tubing, cutting to length, preparing risers and lip plates, high temperature brazing and low temperature soldering, adjustments and polishing as needed. Other responsibilities may be added. The position demands expertise in gold and silver metalworking, soldering, a strong understanding of geometry and dimensions, attention to detail, excellent time management skills, a high degree of manual dexterity, patience, and openness to feedback.  Attention to detail and the ability to work cooperatively will lead to success.

        Required profile

          A Wood Machinist is responsible for all aspects of preparation and fabrication of bodies and headjoints for Powell’s lines of wooden flutes and piccolos. All efforts are to meet and/or exceed Powell’s quality standards.

          A successful candidate would be able to evaluate and select appropriate billets for production needs, turning the billets round and rough boring them. The majority of this work will be done using a specially-equipped machine lathe. This work includes producing the final, precision bores of the instruments, machining the exteriors, preparing the woodwork for metal rings and parts, and final assembly and finishing of the metal and wooden components prior to the installation of keywork. Most of this work will be done on modified metalworking machinery and on a CNC machining center operated separately.

          Required profile

          Familiarity with the use of measuring and inspection tools: Comparator, Vernier, micrometer, height gauges is necessary for this position.

          The ability to service and maintain machines a plus. Working methodically and efficiently, dependability and attention to detail a must.

Precision is required to fit the parts to tolerances of .0001”. Use of small lathes, drill presses and other bench-top machinery.
